Please Mind Your Amulets

Many people wear Thai amulets as if they are common decorative pendants without paying due respect to these holy items. In some cases that I have come across, the amulets were simply being put on tables or coffee tables. This action is not appropriate as the correct method is to put these amulets in your altar when you are not wearing them.

It is said that one should only wear odd numbers of amulets: 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 etc.

Before you put on the amulets, there is a simple action that you must do:

First, hold both the amulets with both of your hands above your head and then concentrate on the amulets and recite the below prayer:

Namo tasa pakawato, arahato, samasam buddhasa (3x)

Poot thang ar rat tha ra nang,
Thang mang ar rat tha ra nang,
Sang kam ar rat tha ra nang,

I beseech the sacred power in the universe to be with me.

Some people would bring the amulets every few years for the monks to bless and empower.
