Phases Of Moon Vs Personalities (月相与自我)

Scientifically speaking or in astrology matters, the heavenly bodies that affect the world and human beings are the sun and the moon. Leaving scientific matters behind, human personalities can be determined by looking on which phase of the moon one is born:

New moon (新月)

People born in this phase is normally simple but with determination. He/she is not afraid of taking up challenges. This person would be a little naïve, positive and he/she would be person of action; for he/she would take action on whatever comes into his/her mind without due delay.

Waxing crescent (娥眉月)

Person who is born during this moon phase likes to challenge the status quo and create new ideas. He/she likes to take up challenges and likes to be creative. This person also dislikes keeping rules and restrictions. He/she is also a fickle in love life and may hurt his/her partner unknowingly.

1^st Quarter (上弦月)

A person born in this period would find himself/herself sandwiched between the ever changing new and the old situations. This person would find he/she becomes too busy tackling one matter after another and gradually become lethargic over time. The downside is that he/she always in a state of dilemma. At times this person can be indecisive and become lost.

Waxing gibbous (盈凸月)

Person born during this period puts much emphasis on his/her own intellectual development over fame. This is an intelligent person with multiple talents. He/she has excellent coordination, analytical and leadership skills. This person likes to engage in self-talk to find out the best solution or explanation to a matter. Due to the attention to details, he/she may be perceived as ‘slow’ to the outside world.

Full moon (滿月)

Person born during full moon is very confident of himself/herself. He/she would give others a very strong and bright impression of him/her. This person is also always in good luck and he/she would excel in whatever he/she does. However, this person may experience emotional instability and due to over confident; he/she is likely to suffer failure and hurt himself/herself.

Waning gibbous (虧凸月)

Person born during this period can be a very good communicator and a teacher. He/she likes to share his/her knowledge with others generously. So, this person would have a lot of friends and he/she is beloved by others.

Last quarter (下弦月)

A person born during last quarter would have a sense of crisis. This person is unique compared to common folks and he/she likes to develop some kind of ideology or system to tackle the unknown future. In another word, people would treat him/her a ‘weirdo’ and an outcast in this society. He/she can be extremely successful or failure. Whatever case that may be, this person is always driven by his/her own ambitious mind.

Waning crescent (殘月)

This person is very sensitive and he/she has a very sharp intuition. This person tends to indulge in occult matters. He/she likes to help others and share their burdens. He/she is a Jack of all trades, master of none. This person likes to try many things but he/she can never see the ends of those efforts. However, his/her success does come around in an unexpected ways. Due to his/her strong intuition, this person is always in good hands.

Of course, the above is just one of many aspects of character analysis in astrology. If we can take into account of position of sun and other major planets; then a more precise approximate can be made.

The Father Who Never RIP (不休息的神父)

Prior to the independence of Malaysia, many schools in Malaysia were established by churches and clergy were involved in the administration of these schools. Just to name a few: St. George (1915), Convent (1938) and Methodist Girl School (1885) in Taiping. In Ipoh, we have the famous St. Michael (1912). And in Muar, we have St. Andrew (1930). So as you can see, most of these church established schools were in existence before WWII. Local folks believe that many of these old schools are still run by some restless spirits of old clergy at night.

In one of such clergy established schools in Upper Perak, the spirit of a restless father is said to roam the corridor connecting the teacher’s block and school classrooms. It was said that this spirit started to show itself after the government decided to remove religious objects such as the cross from school buildings.

I was told by a security guard who used to work in that particular school that the restless father used to materialize itself in the teacher’s room around 9pm and then it would proceed to walk (or perhaps glide would be a more suitable word) from one classroom to another while holding a piece of candle. When the spirit materializes, a greenish glow would be seen first and then the figure of a father would then appear. When the surrounding is dark enough, it would only be an orb with green glow seen moving about along the corridor.

So some security guards would prefer to switch on the corridor lighting so as to prevent the materialization of the eerie green orb; that had temporary ceased the ghostly sightings. But later due to the cost and energy saving effort; the headmaster instructed all peripheral lightings to be switched off. And again, the restless father is again seen wandering about the school premises.

Of course, some students do return to school at night to study for examinations. These students normally form small study groups as this is a much effective way to study. Some students return to school for extra-curricular activities such as drama or uniform units. Most of the time, students would return to school during weekends or school holidays. And some students would take advantage of darkness to do intimate acts. Which I don’t need to describe in too detail as youths now days matured very fast.

A student couple was the last to leave after their night study session. They somehow emotionally turned on to each other and start hugging and kissing… In order that no one could their intimacy; the couple decided to switch off the classroom light. Well, they thought it was a perfect plan as the classroom is now in pitch dark and quiet.

Just as the couple would make further intimate contact, suddenly the girl saw a green glow moving along the classroom window. Before she could tell her partner, the door suddenly forced opened by a gust of cold wind…

Now, standing in front of the half naked couple was a father holding a piece of burning candle. The stunned couple was speechless with jaws dropped. And the father stared at the couple with glassy dead fish eyes and said with a hollow tone that seemed to echo inside their minds forever: “What are you doing?!”

The couple was so afraid that they gave out a loud yell and rushed out of the classroom and they knocked out the poor security guard who so happened to came for investigation after hearing the commotions.

I was told by the story teller that the couple left their underwear at the crime scene. Of course no one would admit who were the owners in the morning… No one wanted to press charges as almost everyone in the classroom knew who the culprits are.

Problems With Toilet Taps & Lights (灯与水喉的问题)

My primary school in the previous story was notorious of haunting because of its dark history of being the head quarter of Imperial army. It was rumoured that the river that flows through the back of the school is also haunted. Old local residents claimed that during the Japanese occupation, prisoners’ head were chopped down with samurai sword and their heads were thrown into the river… Hence restless spirits roam around the athletic field and especially the toilet.

To many students, visiting school toilet is the single most horrible experience especially during thunder storms. Not only the toilet was smelly, it was dimly lit and even at noon people can barely see each other’s face clearly. I did pee in my pants when I was in Standard 1 due to too scare to visit the toilet. So were my friends.

Our fears were proven to be true as one of the school security guards known as Uncle Lee told me his ordeal with the spirits in the school at night.

It was and still is a direction of the headmaster that all toilet lights and water taps to be tightly shut to save electricity and water. So the job of a security guard not only needs to keep an eye on the school premises but he/she must also keep an eye on lightings and taps throughout the school.

During those days, security of schools weren’t too many problems as there weren’t too many valuable items compared to today. So a security guard’s job was pretty easy in general case. Having so said seems that the spirits that roamed my old school like to play prank with security guards at night. For lightings in some of the classrooms would turn on automatically normally just pass midnight. And when poor Uncle Lee rushed to the place to off the lighting, lightings and taps in the toilet would then be turned on sequentially.

Strange happening just took place one after another as if something is playing hide and seek with Uncle Lee. At times these paranormal activities were so fierce that Uncle Lee had to kneel down on the floor and beg the spirits to spare his life. In return, he would offer the spirits some food offerings and joss papers after duty. Believe it or not, that bribery did work for the spirits and they would normally leave Uncle Lee alone for the night.

According to Uncle Lee, though he was a brave man then, it was quite horrific to enter the toilet to turn off the water taps because there were about 10 water taps in a row. By the time he shut tight the last tap, the first water tap started to be turned on in front of Uncle Lee seemingly by an invisible hand. And then the second tap handle would slowly being turned on too… until all of the taps were turned on and water flowing out fiercely.

I did ask Uncle Lee if he had observed any unusual object in the toilet when he was at war with toilet lighting and water taps. But Uncle Lee simply replied that though there was a big mirror in the toilet, he had never dare to venture to look into the mirror once during his 10 years of service!

Well, I don’t blame him for what can one do if he suddenly sees a monster standing behind him? So it is a wise move by pretending you didn’t see anything otherwise Uncle Lee couldn’t have last for so long.

Maybe Uncle Lee can rest now since he has retired some time ago. I remain curious if the spirits had spared the new security guards…

  

The March Of Imperial Army (日军的操步)

According to my late grandpa who was a rubber tapper in Kuala Kangsar, my former primary school was the head quarter of Japanese Imperial Army during WWII. Grandpa was about 25 years old when the Japanese invaded Malaya. He was once being asked to stand in front of the army head quarter for one whole day because he forgot to bowl to the military MPs in front of the building. Of course, grandpa was one of few lucky ones who return home in one piece.

During my 6 years of primary education in that school, I have heard of many ghost stories of the said school at night. This story is told by a teacher who had apparently stayed in the school building longer than she should…

When I was with the school, there was one basketball field and one athletic field a few steps lower. You see, the school is built on a slope. The teacher’s room was situated on the ground floor facing the basketball field. It was said that the current basketball field was where the Imperial Army congregated every morning and evening for marching practices; while the below field was used for torturing prisoners.

On that day, it was about 9pm and all of the teachers had gone back except Madam Ang who was still at her desk marking her student’s workbooks. She had to complete the task that night before the parents and teachers meeting.

As Madam Ang was marking her last portion of the workbooks, she suddenly heard some rhythmical pilling sounds came from the basketball field. She raised her head and wonder who on earth would work in the dead of the night.

So Madam Ang put down her pen and walked towards the direction of the pilling sound. The more she got close to the source of the sound, the sound sounded as if some people were marching. “Ah, it must be the scouts who were practising for the coming sports day! But the boys should knock off and rest early.” She thought.

At that point, Madam Ang’s mind sort of contented with the answer and she returned to her desk to work. But just as she was finishing her last workbook, the marching sound was heard again. This time the sound seemed to be closer to the teacher’s room or perhaps the marching group has reached the front door of the teacher’s room.

Just as Madam Ang was about to get up to approach the thought to be scouts to ask them to return home for the night, the marching sound suddenly moved towards the left and slowly fading towards the left side of the classroom blocks.

Since she was to call it a day anyway, Madam Ang walked out of the teacher’s room and locked the main door. She was able to catch a glimpse of the marching group… and they were in uniform alright. Though the surrounding was dim, through full moon light, Madam Ang could roughly tell that the weird group was wearing Japanese Imperial Army uniforms.

As recalled by Madam Ang later during a reunion gathering:

“I couldn’t imagine what would happen if the group of ‘thing’ suddenly took an about turn and came to catch me!”

Coincidentally, a few years after Madam Ang’s encounter, the authority renovated the basketball court and it was said that the contractors excavated some Imperial Army items such as rusted samurai sword, pieces of helmets and some Japanese coins. After the items were removed, no strange happenings were heard until now. Maybe the spirits have decided to RIP or perhaps they just wait for a suitable timing…

Creating 8-Characters Reading Database (八字资料库)

Normally 8-Characters reading is used by Chinese to find out one's fate and life journey. Although many foreign and non-Chinese friends had consulted me about their 8-Characters and most of them found it was a surprise that 8-Characters work for them too in a way.

I do not claim to be expert in this field but just want to compile a list of readings of people of the world wherever they may be. My purpose is to set up a database for all those who wish to study astrology to refer to.

Applied Astrology In Feng Shui (七政四余)

Perhaps you are not aware that there are two major components in classical Feng Shui studies: astrology and geographical science or better known as Feng Shui. We are already familiar with Flying Star Feng Shui and other Feng Shui schools. Sadly speaking, Feng Shui today is crippled because its twin, astrology part is neglected due to over secrecy of Chinese scholars.

Roughly speaking, classical Chinese astrology comprises of 3 major components:

• Planets, Moon, Sun, Rahu, Ketu etc.
• The 28 houses
• The 12 palaces (Similar but not identical to western zodiac)

Again, there are two charts in applied astrology in Feng Shui: the ground chart (地盘) representing the location and the sky chart (天盘) representing the individual. Both charts must coincide in order to be effective. It is precisely the combined relative locations of all above elements that triggered the earth's power to increase one's luck and wealth. However, it is not so easy to find an optimum solution and a person might need to wait for a long time for the timing. So, now days; many masters just use the position of Sun and the Moon instead as they are more predictable.

Current day Chinese 8 Characters (八字) is derived from classical Chinese astrology that uses actual heavenly bodies. Having said so, predictions using real stars give rise to many problems and the lack of accuracy. Hence ancient scholars used 24 Solar locations ( 节气) and symbolic stars instead for fortune telling and that turned out to be much better than using real stars. This change has not affected the western astrology however.

Likewise, the Purple Star System (紫薇斗数) utilises many symbolic stars to indicate certain events and characters of a person. I would just like to point out that unlike traditional astrology that can be used for predicting almost anything; the 8-Characters and Purple Star systems are only meant for calculating the fate of human and not for any other purposes.

Since classic Chinese astrology is a big topic, I would just stop the discussion here so as not to add more confusions.

Ghost Whispers (鬼话连篇)

If you still remember Diana and Maryann? Well, the story did not end there. I will leave you with one more story before I go for another assignment outstation.

After Diana learnt the Maryann was not from this world, she fell sick always and her roommate, Lian was kind enough to accompany her whenever possible until…

It was again end of semester exam. Lian had completed her subject exams early and she packed her belongings and return to her hometown leaving Diana alone in her room as she still has to sit for financial accounting which was her last paper.

Now it was Diana alone in a double-decker room alone for a few days. It wasn’t too bad during day times as Diana would spend her time studying in the university library and only to return to her room to bath and rest. Since her hostel was for female only, so Diana could not ask her boyfriend to accompany her. But she figured that it should be okay just for a few more days… since Maryann didn’t make herself noticeable since her identity was revealed by Lian.

All was quiet at the western frontier until the night before Diana’s exam. Diana studied particularly hard for that night to reinforce her understanding on a few topics that she did not have good understanding still.

So, it was around 2am when Diana hit her deck. When Lian was around, she slept on the top deck and Diana took the bottom deck. So she kept her lower deck since it didn’t make sense to move up just for a few nights; she was to move out soon.

After Diana went to her bed, she felt someone or something had climbed onto the upper deck and almost immediately, she could feel that something was pressing on the mattress above her. Due to curiosity, Diana tried to turn her body sideways and peeped upwards.

Through the street lights, she could saw two pair of legs; one big and small hung down from upper deck and swung to and fro. Diana immediately understood that she had seen a ghost! No, perhaps should I say, two…

So Diana pretended to sleep while praying that something would leave her in peace for the night… Then she heard the voice of a small girl:

“Ma mi, the big sister at the bottom deck is pretending to sleep! She pretended that she had not seen us!”

Then another voice followed:

“Dear, she is ma mi’s friend. Lest we disturb her; shall we move outside?”

After that, the upper deck became dead silent. Diana was so frightened that she covered her head with her blanket and recited all mantras she could memorized until she was awoken by her alarm clock.

After her exam, Diana moved out of the hostel. As she was leaving, she met Lian who returned to pick up some of her items. Diana pulled Lian aside and asked:

“Tell me about Maryann…”

Lian said:

“I supposed it is okay to talk now… Maryann killed herself after she was found pregnant and her boyfriend didn’t want to take responsibility!”

Perhaps the little voice Diana heard was Maryann’s baby girl? I could only guess.
