Do Mind Your Language

In my position as a Feng Shui and magic hobbyist, I had many opportunities to meet many estate agents and get much firsthand info on haunted buildings and ghost stories; in the exchange of my free service of course.

Alice is one of the more talkative types and below is her story:

You know you really must watch your comments when visiting old buildings.

One afternoon around 4pm, I brought a rich elderly couple to see a colonial style old building facing sea. It was a large double story wood and brick building with banana trees, wild ginger plants and ylang-ylang trees growing in the compound.

After I unlocked all doors, I brief the couple a little concerning the building condition and the proposed selling price and then let the couple to walk through the building. The couple seemed to be quite interested in the building and they chatted between each other on their proposed plans of the building… I could only stand quietly listening to their conversations.

I can still remember some of their conversations as I thought they were a little arrogant and disrespectful of the building and the previous owner. You know how rich folks are when coming to showing off their money matters. The gentleman started to say that $1M is a little cheap and it would be a waste of time to renovate this old building and they should demolish it and build a new one; the lady seconded echoing the gentleman’s comment.

As the couple was excited by own conversations, an old rocking chair started to rock at first slowly and it gradually swigged more vigorously… Everyone thought it was only the sea breeze. The lady at this time said something I think she shouldn’t: “I will throw this old rocking chair away when I purchase this building.”

As soon as the last sentence came out from the lady’s mouth, she felt weak and collapsed onto the ground. What else? We hurriedly carried her back to the car as we thought that the still air in the building must have caused the lady to faint.

We didn’t know any first aid techniques then, what we could do was to sprinkle some water on her face and gently slap her face to make her regain her consciousness. I guessed the luck must be on our side as after a few minutes, the lady gained her senses. The first sentence that came out from her mouth was: “I saw an old lady in the rocking chair pointing her finger at me and scolding nonstop!”

A Taxi Driver’s Ghost Story

Mr. Chong was a taxi driver in Penang. He was a non believer about spirits until …

The incident happens somewhere in the middle of January, 2012.

It was around 11:30pm that Mr. Chong picked up a lady passenger near a cemetery in Bukit Jambul destined to a seaside mansion in Tanjung Bunga. Mr. Chong was very happy as he can earn more as the taxi charges will go higher after midnight. Added to that there was lesser traffic at night, it would be a swift drive. Mr. Chong reached the destination about 40 minutes later.

The lady was quite generous and gave Mr. Chong $100 and asked him to keep the change. Mr. Chong thought he was in luck to have fetched such a generous passenger and thanked the lady repeatedly and knocked off for the day.

Next morning when Mr. Chong picked up his wallet with the intention to give the extra money he earned the previous night to his wife; he found two pieces of half burnt “hell money” commonly used by the Chinese community as an offering to the spirits.

After the shocking discovery, Mr. Chong has fallen sick. His face turned pale and vomited some dirty substances. Gradually he lost consciousness and started to murmur some unknown language.

Mr. Chong’s wife consulted a few mediums and temples but Mr. Chong’s condition flips flops. This situation continued for a month or so until Mr. Chong’s father-in-law met me for coffee one morning. He gave me Mr. Chong’s date of birth and photo and asked me if I would help.

I did a simple calculation and asked the old gentleman to purchase some yellow joss paper to rub from Mr. Chong’s head to his toe a few times and then go to a cross road and burn the joss paper with some paper money.

A few days later, Mr. Chong’s in-law gave me a call. According to him, Mr. Chong has recovered after they have carried out the ritual. Now Mr Chong would keep a few pieces of this yellow joss paper in his car; but he will never return to his taxi driving profession again.

The Science Of White Eel (Aji Welut Putih)

I post this ritual on behalf of Lenny. See if anyone can integrate this practice together with the Taoist eel god posted below J:

The science of white eel was once possessed by Indonesian independence fighters and it is said to be very effective in escaping the chase of your enemies so that you can remain unharmed against all odds. It is also believed that you will be able to escape easily and safely when you are surrounded by your enemies. However, at present days, this science is mainly practised by robbers and gangsters so that they can easily escape from being caught by the authorities.

First, the person must perform fast for 7 days and 7 nights by only eating white rice or bread. This is followed by fasting without food and water for another 3 days and nights. One must start the fast on a Friday (Jumaat Pahing).

The mantra:

“Anak-anak sang dewo ratu,

suryo kirono, suryo ratu.

Deleg putih tinalenan welut putih.

Cot procot jabang bayi kakang kawah adik ari-ari.

Ojo siro keri.

Eh ajiku si welut putih” (3X)

Once successful, when this mantra is recited in danger and with the risks of being detained by your enemies; a secret escape route will suddenly open in front of you. Perhaps you can use this mantra to escape from your boss during your weekly department meeting too! Hahaha...

Play Ghosts But Played By Ghosts

Ah Beng is only 18 years old and has no experience with magic or spirits what so ever. But this young man is pretty interested in magical things and he has a group of pals that practices the Liu Ren (六壬) magic. They frequent to the cemetery at night to play with ghosts or even to catch a few just to test out their powers.

This was just another ghost hunting trip for the group to an isolated cemetery in Bukit Mertajam. One of Ah Beng’s friends Ah Kao started the master invocation ritual (下童) to invite his master to possess his body. After doing so for a few minutes, Ah Kao started to dance and perform martial art stances.

Ah Beng was quite impressed with Ah Kao’s ability and want to try also. Ah Kao agreed and transferred the master’s spirit into Ah Beng. As to Ah Beng’s expectation, he started to dance and played Kung Fu. But what was unexpected was that Ah Beng’s movements gradually turned violent and he continuously banged his head against a tomb stone nearby until blood oozing out from Ah Beng’s head.

At the mean while, Ah Kao and the gang panicked and didn’t know what to do because they had never experienced such an incident before. So they had to end the ghost hunting session and pulled Ah Beng back to his house. I was told that stones were thrown at their cars while they hurriedly retreated to human civilization. After safely home, Ah Beng’s family members remained helpless. There was nothing Ah Kao can do as his master had gone to Singapore and only to return after two days’ time.

I was finally called through Ah Kao’s friend to see if I can be of any help. When I arrived at Ah Beng’s place, I discovered Ah Beng was possessed by 3 nasty male spirits. So I took out my prayer beads and chanted “Na Ma Put Ta Yak” mantras and draw yants on his forehead and back to drive out the spirits. After Ah Beng was himself again, I cautioned him on what he has done. The moral of this story is: please don’t pray pray with spiritual world without proper supervision.

The Making Of An Eel God (鱔魚神)

An eel caught in the wild.

Eels are known as resilient and die-hard creatures. They can survive with minimal water condition and their slimy body surfaces make them hard to be caught in water. Straightly speaking eel spirits are classified as lower spirits together with the chicken, snake, fox etc.

Having this in mind, eel spirits are not suitable to be used in standard blessing rituals involving heavenly deities. So this ritual can only be carried out in a separate altar; or more formally known as “yin altar” (陰壇). The purpose of eel sprit worship is to make a magician’s soul as slimy as an eel and the subsequent spell would be difficult to detect and neutralized.

The first step to call an eel spirit is of course to catch an eel about a pound in weight. Once caught, this eel will be put in a water container with some oil for one day to let it vomit out its stomach content. After that the magician will prepare enough rice wine and an air tight container to put the eel into.

The eel will only be dipped in the rice wine until it died. The dead eel is then buried under a plant outside of the altar and the plant is worshipped with incense daily. After that the rice wine is further empowered for around 100 days while performing the below ritual:

Once the content is sufficiently empowered, the rice wine and the plant are worshipped with incense daily. The rice wine will be used to mix with enough cinnabar and the magician’s own blood to empower ‘fu’ or talisman in casting black magic.

Magic Believes Of Black Turmeric (Kunyit Hitam)

Curcuma Caesia with flower

Kaempferia Parviflora Wall with flower

There are two types of black turmeric plants available to our mortal human beings excluding those said to be originated from the spiritual world of course ;-)

·         Curcuma Caesia (Kali Haldi)

·         Kaempferia Parviflora Wall (Black Turmeric)

The Kali Haldi or the rizhomes of Curcuma Caesia is believed to be the reincarnation of goddess Kali and they are used in Kali worship rituals beside the actual herbal usages. It is the second type of black turmeric that is sought after and believed to possess magical powers amongst the Southeast Asian occult circles:

·         In some Vietnamese magic traditions, practitioners believe this type of turmeric can be trained like a Kumanthong and is the most powerful of all the ginger plants.

·         If you put the black turmeric flower in your wallet, you will not have monetary problems.

·         A black turmeric plant can shield its owner from black magic.

·         It is said that a black turmeric plant will give out the benzoic smell on Friday nights.

·         Black turmeric is said to be effective in curing all sorts of cancer.

·         It is forbidden to let the shadow of the edge of roof onto the black turmeric or it will lose its power.

Whatever type of turmeric you choose, you will need to get the name right I supposed.

Please Mind Your Amulets

Many people wear Thai amulets as if they are common decorative pendants without paying due respect to these holy items. In some cases that I have come across, the amulets were simply being put on tables or coffee tables. This action is not appropriate as the correct method is to put these amulets in your altar when you are not wearing them.

It is said that one should only wear odd numbers of amulets: 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 etc.

Before you put on the amulets, there is a simple action that you must do:

First, hold both the amulets with both of your hands above your head and then concentrate on the amulets and recite the below prayer:

Namo tasa pakawato, arahato, samasam buddhasa (3x)

Poot thang ar rat tha ra nang,
Thang mang ar rat tha ra nang,
Sang kam ar rat tha ra nang,

I beseech the sacred power in the universe to be with me.

Some people would bring the amulets every few years for the monks to bless and empower.
