Drowned Ghost Vs Siam Bomoh (水鬼斗暹师)

This is my guru who was an old Siam bomoh's (Thai magician) real case which happened about 20 years ago. At that time I was an apprentice in Thai magic under this bomoh whose house was situated just about 60m or so from the Muda River. So during annual flooding, I would help my guru to move to my old house for a few weeks until the flood water subsided.

The Muda River or Sungai Muda as the locals would call it was quite famous of its giant fresh water prawns and ever expensive but tasty kelah fish. So many experienced anglers and divers came to this river to fish.

On that particular afternoon, four local experience divers told a sundry shop owner that they wanted to catch some lampang fish and prawns. It was around 2pm then and as usual, those local divers did not make use of expansive diving equipments; most of the time the only equipment those divers used is their own pair of hands.

At around 4pm, two of the divers rushed to the said shop owner and asked him to call the police and emergency respond teams. On enquiry, the panic divers said two of their companions were nowhere to be found and they were feared drowned.

So the whole kampong folks were alerted and a team of experienced swimmers were assembled to perform search and rescue while waiting for the authorities to arrive. The police, ambulance and the local fire department arrived an hour later. The fire department sent in two divers to search for the missing two.

At around 7pm, since the sky was getting dark; the official search and rescue had decided to stop for the day and to be continued the next day. While the authorities could wait, the victims’ family couldn’t; so they called my guru and I helped him to prepare the required materials.

We arrived at the river bank at around 8pm, the family members of the missing persons were waiting for us. As soon as my guru had settled down, he asked me to take out a piece of wooden plate and on the plate I put 7 pieces of flowers of different colors, 7 pieces of white candles, betel nut, betel leafs and a pot of kemayan (benzoin).

After the items are arranged, my Siam guru sat in front of the stuffs and start chanting:

“Jantang santang…  Nama patah…”

Then my guru asked me to put the plate on the river water and let it float. Interestingly, the plate was floating up and downstream as if it was being controlled by some forces. After about 5 minutes or so, the plate sank into water under a bridge.

At this point, my guru instructed two good swimmers from the kampong to search the water under the bridge. After less than 10 minutes or so, the swimmers found the bodies of two divers. Both of the corpses were hugging each other and the bodies already turned into black green in colors.

Interestingly speaking, the place under that bridge was being searched by the search and rescue departments before but nothing was found then. Another very interesting point is that there were finger marks on both of the corpses. My guru commented that the river was the home of many drowned ghosts; if possible one should not go into the water alone.

After the bodies were found, before we depart; my guru asked the two survived divers what did they see during their initial dive and this is their reply:

“After the four of them dived into the water, they saw around 5 to 6 numbers of super big freshwater prawns swimming under the bridge. Those prawns were so big that they had never anything like that before throughout their 20 years of diving life.

So all of us swam towards the giant prawns but those prawns responded very quickly. My friend and I decided to give up but the other two continued with pursuing. We decided to rise to surface to take a rest while waiting for the other two.

After two hours of waiting, we sensed something was wrong; so we called for help…”

The Siam guru later told me that the plate movements that everyone saw was due to his familiar spirit or the local calls it the ‘hantu raya’. I did see this ‘hantu raya’ when I inherited my guru’s possessions after he passed away. This spirit would show itself in the form of long hair creature about 10 feet tall when I had neglected to make offerings to it.

Of course, now days those modern gurus cannot perform such ritual any more as they are more concentrated in making money and throwing slanders in the intranet; most of their magic rituals are fake and without proper lineage transmissions. Sad to say so…

Phantom Buses At KLIA (KLIA的鬼巴士)

KL International Airport is located in Sepang, Selangor. Not many people know that there are some phantom buses roaming between the airport and KL city or somewhere in the vicinity.

This story is told by my former German colleague, Andrew. Andrew was an expatriate sent to Malaysia to help setup a factory in Kulim Hi-Tech Park. Since he has a 5 year contract in Malaysia, Andrew planned to bring his family over to Kulim to have a short stay after his working condition is stabilized.

After struggling on factory works for two years, the factory had successfully started production. At this point, Andrew though of bringing his wife and two kids to stay in Malaysia; so he made some arrangements and finally everything is ready. On the designated date, Andrew decided to fetch his family personally from KLIA so that he could bring his family to visit KL and places around it before returning to Kulim.

It was just about 1am when Andrew and his family exited the KLIA arrival hall. As Andrew was driving towards KL city where he had booked a hotel suite for a few days, he would point at certain landmarks along the way to his kids and wife and start feeding them with information. Well, none of them in the car was about to fall asleep for sure due to excitement anyway. Talking would drive away tiredness too.

At first Andrew was driving at the back of 5 tourist buses in a row when they left KLIA. After driving for 10km or so, Andrew decided to overtake the buses as it was quite late and tomorrow would be another long day.

As Andrew’s car overtook the first bus, he habitually looked at the bus he was overtaking. To his surprised, he found that the bus body was sort of transparent and he could see passengers in the bus. Even those bus passengers looked sort of transparent too, some were just skeletons. Almost all passengers were glowing with weak greenish light.

Likewise goes for the second, third, fourth and the fifth bus. According to Andrew who told me his story later, he was quite sure that all of the 5 buses were fully loaded with anything but human! Not only Andrew, his kids saw those ghostly passengers too. Some of them even waved at the kids as if saying ‘hallo’.

After Andrew had finally overtaken the last bus, he again looked into his rear mirror and he saw that all of the buses gradually vanished in thick night fog behind his car. Andrew wanted to find out the story behind those ghostly buses but it was too late after they had checked in the hotel for the night.

The next day, Andrew decided to grab a local taxi and asked the old taxi driver if he knows anything about those phantom buses and the passengers. According to the taxi driver, Andrew was not the first person who had experienced those ghostly sightings. Many taxi drivers who plied at night between the airport and town has seen similar ghostly apparitions. Some taxis even carried some phantom passengers at the arrival hall and only to find the passenger seats empty on arrival at the destinations.

Some theory said that those phantoms were once air passengers died during air accidents. Since those unfortunate passengers failed to return home when they are alive; their will powers remain so active that one way or another, in what so ever forms; the spirits shall return home in due time.

The Psychic/Psycho Lady Hitchhiker (神通女乘客)

My pal, Stanly is the second generation of a filthy rich businessman. His hobby is to buy new cars and the speed of him buying new car is faster than lady buy clothing. Naturally after a person is in possession of a new car, he would like to show off. Stanley is of course of no exception.

One Friday night, after Stanly had some high moment in a disco with his friends, he decided to drive his new bought Merce to tour the KL city. So off they went from KL centre to Petaling Jaya and then to Subang Jaya…

When the car travelled to Subang Perade, a lady suddenly rushed out from taxi stand and waved at Stanly’s car perhaps signaling Stanly to stop. It was around midnight and had Stanly drove alone, he would think the lady was a ghost. But now that he was with three other friends; I supposed even lady ghosts wouldn’t have escape those the paws of those lustful guys.

Anyway, I couldn’t be sure what Stanly thinking at that moment was as he did stop his car in front of the lady. After all, the lady looked quite pretty too! When the car halted and Stanly wound down his windscreen and the lady spoke:

“Sir, can you be so kind to let me hitchhike for a section of the road? I couldn’t get any Taxi at this odd hour?”

Although this method of waving down a stranger’s car to take a free ride is relatively common in western countries, it is very case in Malaysia due to safety reasons. Since Stanly had stopped the car, so he let the lady sat in the side passenger’s seat.

Not long after the lady hopped into Stanly’s car, she started to direct Stanly how to drive… it was either she asked Stanly to sway to the left and a few minutes later; she would instruct Stanly to sway his car to right. After quite a number of repetitions, Stanly started to feel agitated and he burst out:

“Sister, this is a straight highway I am driving on. Why do you want me to sway left and right? Do you do this intentionally so that the ** would come and arrest me for drunk driving!?”

The lady saw Stanly was agitated so she did keep a moment of silent for a while…

Suddenly the lady yelled: “STOP!!”

Due to reflex, Stanly immediately stepped on the car foot brake until the stopper. Everyone in the car was thrown forward due to sudden impact. Stanly was real angry now, he yelled at the lady:

“Are you nuts!? What is the scream for?”

At this point, the lady said very sincerely:

“You have hit many those good brothers and sisters in white… now you must not bang into this good sister in red!!”

After she had spoken the words, the lady opened the car door and exited the car leaving Stanly and his pals staring at the empty road in front of them in much bewilderment… The question kept echoing…

“From where did those white clothing and red clothing stuffs came from?”

I Know You Can See Me (我知道你看到我)

It is said that when you see a ghost, it is best just to ignore this spirit and pretend that you did not see it. Is this a workable method, then perhaps you will think otherwise after reading the below story:

If you are driving on Malaysian roads, you will notice that there will be a convex mirror setup at some of the T-junctions. This is mainly for safety reasons so that the driver can see traffics at both sides of the junction.

My friend’s cousin, Raymond is from Tawau, Sabah and he had an accident at about 12 midnight after returning from having supper. According to Raymond, after the late night supper, he rode on his motorbike and homeward bound.

It was in the dead of the night, there were not too many traffic. As Raymond approached a road junction, he habitually looked at the convex mirror. There are about 5 road junctions Raymon needs to pass through from the hawker center. For the first junction, everything was clear. So was the second junction…

On approaching the 3rd junction, Raymond suddenly noticed the reflection of a piece of red cloth floating at his back. He suspected something was not right, he has heard of old folks mentioning that that might be some wandering spirits following him… Though Raymond wasn’t a superstitious one and he didn’t expect to be so lucky as to witness one of such ‘thing’ that night. Like it or not, Raymond started to recite some holy names from Amitabah to Avalokitesvara; and from Lord Jesus to Monkey King etc.

As Raymond was reciting the holy names, he naturally stepped on the gas while pretending that he didn’t see anything unusual.

Now Raymond is approaching the 4th junction, being a prudent driver; Raymond halted and look at the mirror. The most horrible thing is that now the red cloth has transformed into a long haired woman whose head was resting on his right shoulder. Her extremely long hair was flying in the air due to headwind. Luckily, Raymond was a brave man; he continued to pretend that he didn’t see the lady ghost.

While Raymond was pretending, he unconsciously step on the gas and sped ahead. In his mind, Raymond prayed he could wriggle the unwelcomed guest away.

Now Raymond is approaching the 5th junction, he was a little relieved because the distance from the 5th junction to his home is only 500 feet away. Again Raymond halted at the junction and he looked into the mirror. This time to his relief, the lady ghost was finally gone.

Before Raymond could celebrate himself, as he was pressing on the gas paddle; a voice of a lady suddenly heard beside his right ear:

“Why… did… you… pretend… not… seeing… me… while… you… can…?”

Perhaps those words did startle Raymond and he suddenly stepped onto the gas paddle harshly. Result of that, the motorcycle rushed forward forcefully and before Raymond knew anything, he and his bike had rammed into a drain beside the road. The next thing Raymond knew was that he was lying in the hospital sickbed.

My friend assured me that the above story is as real as gold. It was told by Raymond personally.

Mantrayana Curses In Ninjitsu (真言秘密调伏术)

The set up for performing Mantrayana subjugation ritual.

Ninjas of old used many methods to defeat their enemies including black magic. Below is one of many Mantrayana curses used by ninjas to subdue an enemy:

First one has to construct a rice stalk manikin as shown above and inserts the person's name and age into the manikin; and then he should draw 16 numbers of Han ghost character (鬼) encircling the rice stalk manikin. When this is done, some food offerings are made to the protector spirits of the ninjas. Then this ninja shall change into black clothing. Then he should make sword mudra with his right hand and then holds a bell in his left while reciting the below mantra for 108x:

Om oulijiliti militi miwahsimalei suwaka

Normally the above ritual is used to subdue a very powerful opponent. A ninja would normally perform some kind of subjugation ritual before actually come face to face with his opponent. So you see, ninjitsu is a way of life and not just martial art alone.

Ghost Story From Inti Nilai (英迪的鬼故事)

This is yet another ghost story from Inti College located in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan. This story is told by a girl who just wanted to be known as Yoyo.

Yoyo stayed in a student hostel block located near a hillside about 10 minutes walk from the main campus. Her room has a balcony and since temperature in Malaysia is constantly hot, Yoyo normally keeps the balcony door opened so as to improve air circulations.

One particular night, Yoyo felt very tired and she decided to hit the hay early. As Yoyo was falling into slumber, a gust of cold wind suddenly rushed into the room. Yoyo thought it might rain soon, so she wanted to get up to shut the balcony door but no matters how Yoyo tried; she just couldn’t get out from her bed.

At this point, Yoyo was actually panic and her sleepiness had faded completely. She tried to wriggle her numb limbs as she thought that it might just be the blood circulation of her limbs were blocked due to poor sleeping posture.

Then a voice was heard from the balcony. It was clearly the voice of a young lady murmuring: “Yoyo… Yoyo… come and play with me…”

Yoyo was in fact panic stricken but her body was so stiff that she couldn’t move even one inch. So Yoyo tried to raise her head with all her might to look at the direction of the balcony. All her struggle was futile and she could only manage to catch a glimpse of the balcony floor tiles. There she saw a pair of extremely white feet with black finger nails. Yoyo managed to raise her head a little more and she saw the edge of white gown. It was obvious that the voice was from the owner of the feet.

The ‘whatever it was’ repeated the call:

“Yoyo… Yoyo… I am lonely, please come and play with me…”

Though Yoyo was indeed frightened but somehow she couldn’t cry out loud. Suddenly she felt her face was extremely painful as if frostbite and suddenly, she managed to move her body. It was as if a diver suddenly rushed to the surface and Yoyo suddenly yelled out as loud as she could: “Help!” and fainted.

After a long while, Yoyo finally regained consciousness. There she saw her roommate and the hostel supervisor staring at her eagerly. Both of them said simultaneously: “What were you doing, Yoyo? You have scared the wit out of us!”

Yoyo was still oblivious of what had happened. So her roommate said:

“I was sitting in the sofa and suddenly there was a gust of cold wind. I saw you gotten up from your bed as if you want to shut the door. But you just struggled in your bed with a very strange posture while turning your head towards the door. I called your name but you just cried and cried. I had to take some ice cubes and cold water from the fridge and poured onto your face!”

That had explained Yoyo’s ‘frostbite’ on her face. Any, both of the girls decided to move out of the hostel and seek shelter elsewhere.

Ghost Story From Inti College (英迪的鬼故事)

This story is told by Jennifer who is one of Inti College graduates from KL. According to Jennifer, this story is pretty well known amongst Inti folks there.

It is said that a girl, known as Mary who stayed in Block P of student hostel committed suicide by jumping from her room balcony. The girl’s roommate, Joyce was shopping at Petaling Street then. When Joyce finally returned to the hostel at 4pm or so, another student from the hostel rushed to Joyce and said:

“Oh my God Joyce, you would not believe that Mary has committed suicide by jumping down the balcony!”

Joyce just took it easy and said in slumber manner:

“You must be crazy! I saw Mary in Popular Bookshop at Petaling Street a few hours ago.”

The girl was in complete darkness after she heard what Joyce told her. So she pulled Joyce to the spot where Mary’s lifeless body lied. At that point, the police car and ambulance were still there.

Joyce immediately felt dizzy and fainted. Her friends propped her to a chair nearby and a nurse accompanied the ambulance revived Joyce a few minutes later.

After Joyce has calmed down, she said that she did invite Mary to shop together to pass time. But Mary declined her offer. So Joyce had to go alone. At around 2pm or so, Joyce suddenly saw Mary in the said bookshop.

Joyce was pretty upset as she thought Mary didn’t want to befriend with her for some reasons. Without any hesitation, Joyce walked towards Mary as she thought Mary owed her an explanation.

As Joyce was approaching Mary, something diverted Joyce’s attention and she turned her head for a while. And when she resumed her peruse against Mary, Marry suddenly nowhere to be found.

After some frantic searching, Joyce still could not find Mary so she had to give up and return herself. It was indeed a surprise to see Mary has ended her life in that way…

Who was the person Joyce saw in the bookshop then? Jennifer thrown this question to me… and my best bet is that it is probably someone else as according to Tibetan Book Of The Dead, a dead soul would sleep for 3~4 days before awakening; unless the ‘book’ is wrong of course!
