Incantations In Traditional Thai Medicine (传统泰医的符咒)

Same as with other traditional medicinal systems, traditional Thai medicine employs many incantations in the aid of healing process in conjunction to the use of herbs and physical healing. In fact, traditionally Thai magic and medicine are inseparable because a master would go into virgin jungle to meditate and he/she too will get injured in one way or another; even the person is armed with invulnerable magic and familiar spirits. So once a master is injured in jungle alone, it is his/her herbal knowledge that could save him/her.

Not many people understand that the aim of an arjan meditate in jungle is actually to gain more herbal knowledge from jungle spirits. For example, the spirits would inform the arjan on where to find certain herbs or minerals to cure certain illnesses.

It would be another long discussion on the theory of Thai medicine, herbs, physical treatments and incantations. Perhaps it is suffice to say that Thai medicine follows Indian Ayurveda very closely though some Chinese influence may be present.

Just take an example, in Thai medicine bleeding is cured by using herbs and physical methods and in addition to the above; incantation or khata is also recited. An example of a khata to stop bleeding:

OR RUTANGTE, TANMATE, SANGKHATE, TAKKASANTE.

OR KUCHANGPAU NAMONAH, KUPAOHEMOTAI, KUCHANGPAUH HESIANGMONAI,
OR SOHATIE.

OR SHAIZHANG, TISHAILEHEAH, OR SHAIZHANG, TISHAILEHEAH, OR SHAILEHEHAI, ORMAMAI, SHAIFANIANGSIJIANG, FAROISHAITE, OR LANAGAHAI, SHIJIANGFAMAJAIKUTE, OR SOHATE.

Another khata to reduce pain:

OM JOLO PANSAKI, YASANI, OHPANTA, MALAHU SOHAI.

Most of the khatas in Thai medicine deal with exorcism of spirits. This is because in old days, people think that spirits are sources or all illnesses. But let us not put this belief as obsolete because some of those old wisdom may be founded. It is up to us to explore those soon to be forgotten treasures.
