The tabal jin or also known as invocation of Perak guardian
spirits ceremony is only held in the state of Perak. I cut and paste the whole
articles and translated some of the terms for the ease of your reading.
Otherwise the original meaning is untouched.
The following includes
a translated excerpt from the Buku Chenderamata Pertabalan Sultan Idris Shah
regarding the tabal jin ceremony. Please note that some aspects of the ceremony
has changed, as seen from the description of the ceremonies described the
official website of the Office of DYMM Sultan Perak. This ceremony is now known
as the Tabal Pusaka.
The tabal jin is attended by close members of the Royal
Family and Perak Chiefs, all of whom are dressed in black Malay dress and headdress,
with gold threaded side decorations. This candlelit ceremony is performed on
the third night following the coronation customs, with the regalia (including
the sword Chura Si-Manjakini, the Pontoh Bernaga and the Pontoh Ular Lidi) and
nobat given a memuleh (to cure) by YM (Noble)
Raja Chik Muda Pawang Di-Raja in the presence of both DYMM (His Majesty) Sultan
and the Raja Perempuan (Queen) at the
Balai Rong Seri. During the memuleh, neither DYMM Sultan nor Raja Perempuan are
seated on the throne. The Pawang Di-Raja would present the sword Chura
Si-Manjakini on the lap of DYMM Sultan whilst the rest of the regalia and the
nobat are placed before the DYMM Sultan. The Pawang Di-Raja would proceed with
the merenjis tepung tawar ceremony (sprinkle
of plain flour), blessing both the DYMM Sultan and Raja Perempuan. DYMM
Sultan in turn would then perform the merenjis on the regalia and the nobat,
followed by a doa made by the Perak mufti.
Following the curing and sprinkle ceremony, DYMM Sultan and
the Raja Perempuan would leave the Palace towards the pancapersada (raised
platform). This procession is led by the YM Raja Chik Muda Pawang Di-Raja
followed by the Panglima Besar, Panglima Perang Kanan, Panglima Perang Kiri and
the bentaras, and goes around the pancapersada seven times. Both DYMM Sultan
and Raja Perempuan are then brought up the pancapersada and the bersiram tabal
(ceremonial bath) is performed on DYMM Sultan and Raja Perempuan. Gold threaded
yellow cloth is then wrapped around the DYMM Sultan and the Raja Perempuan, who
would then proceed back to the Istana accompanied by the nobat after the
bersiram tabal.
After a change of clothing, DYMM Sultan and the Raja
Perempuan head towards the Balai Rong Seri, again accompanied by the nobat, in
a procession led by the Panglima Besar. Both DYMM Sultan and Raja Perempuan are
then seated on the throne. The YM Raja Chik Muda Pawang Di-Raja then sprinkles
the Air (water) Panca Bicara on the regalia which are placed before the throne,
following which the Air Panca Bicara are sprinkled on both the DYMM Sultan and
Raja Perempuan. The Pawang Di-Raja would then proceed to adorn both the DYMM
Sultan’s and Raja Perempuan’s right ear with the Bunga Pancawa Pancara. This
ceremony involving the Air Panca Bicara is then performed by six members of the
Royal Family (Kerabat Di-Raja)
After the Air Panca Bicara component of the ceremony, both
DYMM Sultan and Raja Perempuan would partake in a ceremonial meal named the
santapan Nasi Berastakona (rice served in octagonal dish). A doa made by the
Perak mufti signals the end of the ceremony.
